Omiya Green Space is a small, well-maintained area along the coast of Atami, Shizuoka, known for its historical and cultural significance. The space is most famous for the Omiya Pine and the bronze statue of Kanichi and Omiya, characters from Koyo Ozaki's popular novel, "The Golden Demon". This novel, published in the late Meiji era, tells the story of a couple, Kanichi and Omiya, and their ill-fated romance, with a memorable scene set in Atami.The statue, created by Tateno Kousei and erected in 1986 by the Atami Rotary Club, depicts Kanichi confronting Omiya. The area is a favorite spot for taking photos and is illuminated from sunset to 10:00 p.m.. The Omiya Pine has been replanted a couple of times, with the current tree being the third generation, due to damage from typhoons, traffic pollution and road construction.Omiya Green Space provides a tranquil spot to relax and reflect on Atami's rich literary history. It's conveniently located near Atami Sun Beach, making it easily accessible for tourists. While the green space itself is small, it offers a picturesque view of the coast and a chance to connect with a significant piece of Japanese literary culture.
