Walking
If you are near Kyoto Station, start by heading towards the Karasuma Line subway station inside the station. Take the Karasuma Line towards Kokusai Kaikan and get off at Shijo Station (about 5 minutes). Exit the station at Exit 1. Once outside, walk straight ahead to Shijo-dori Street, and take a left. Continue walking until you reach the Kamo River. Cross the bridge to your right, and then take a left at the riverside path, walking along the river for about 10 minutes. Pontocho Park will be on your left, just before you reach the area known as Pontocho Alley.
Bus
From Kyoto Station, take bus number 100 or 206 from the bus terminal outside the station. Get off at the 'Shijo Kawaramachi' stop (approximately 15-20 minutes). Once you get off, walk towards the river and cross the street. Head down the narrow alley called Pontocho, which runs parallel to the Kamo River. Pontocho Park is located at the north end of this alley.
Taxi
If you prefer to take a taxi, simply tell the driver 'Pontocho Park' or show them the address: 先斗町通, 145, Umenokicho, Nakagyo Ward, Kyoto, 604-8012. The ride from Kyoto Station should take about 10 minutes, depending on traffic. Most taxis in Kyoto accept credit cards, but it's always good to have cash just in case.
Bicycle Rental
If you want to explore Kyoto on a bicycle, you can rent one from a nearby rental shop. Cycle towards Shijo-dori Street and continue to the Kamo River. Ride along the riverbank heading north for about 15 minutes. You'll find Pontocho Park on your left before reaching the Pontocho Alley entrance.
