Getting There

  • Car

    If you are driving, start from the main ferry terminal on Naoshima Island, which is located at Miyanoura Port. Head north on Route 30 towards the Naoshima Art Museum. Continue following the signs for the Naoshima Art Site. After approximately 5 km, you will reach the intersection with Route 2. Turn left onto Route 2, which will lead you towards the ferry terminal for the mainland. Please note that Kanryuji is not located on Naoshima Island; it is in Kurashiki, Okayama, so you will need to take a ferry back to the mainland first. The ferry ride costs around 360 yen. Once on the mainland, follow the signs to Kurashiki, which is about a 25-minute drive from the ferry terminal.

    To reach Kanryuji via public transportation, begin at the Miyanoura Port ferry terminal on Naoshima Island. Take the ferry to Uno Port on the mainland (approximately 20 minutes). The ferry fare is around 360 yen. Upon arrival at Uno Port, walk to the Uno Station, which is about a 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal. From Uno Station, take the JR Sanyo Line train towards Okayama Station and get off at Kurashiki Station (approximately 15 minutes). Finally, from Kurashiki Station, you can take a taxi directly to Kanryuji, which is about a 10-minute drive away. Be prepared for a taxi fare of approximately 1,500 yen.
