Public Bus
From Nara Park, head to the nearest bus stop, 'Nara Koen'. Take the Kintetsu Bus bound for 'Kyoto Station'. After approximately 35 minutes, get off at 'Higashiyama Sanjo'. From the bus stop, walk towards the east on Sanjo-dori Street for about 10 minutes until you reach the intersection with Shirakawa-dori. Turn right onto Shirakawa-dori, and continue walking until you reach the entrance of 'Shishigatani Daikokudanicho'. Follow the signs for 'Mount Daimonji', which will lead you to the trailhead.
Train and Bus
From Nara Station, take the JR Nara Line to Kyoto Station (approximately 45 minutes). Once at Kyoto Station, transfer to the bus terminal and take the Kyoto City Bus number 204 or 93, heading towards 'Shishigatani Daikokudanicho'. Alight at 'Daikokudo' bus stop. From there, follow the signs to 'Mount Daimonji'. The trailhead is a short walk from the bus stop.
Walking
If you prefer to walk, you can start from Kofuku-ji Temple in Nara. Head northeast towards the 'Sarusawa Pond' and take the road leading to the 'Naramachi' area. Continue towards the Takabatake-cho area until you reach 'Shishigatani'. This is a longer route (about 6 km) and will take around 1.5 to 2 hours, but it offers a scenic walk through the countryside leading up to Mount Daimonji.
