Getting There

  • Bus

    From Kyoto Station, take the City Bus 100 or 206 towards 'Kiyomizu-dera' or 'Higashiyama'. Get off at 'Nanzenji Eikando-michi' bus stop. From there, walk approximately 10 minutes. Head northeast on Nanzenji Kitanobocho street until you reach Kōun-ji Temple, located at 59 Nanzenji Kitanobocho.

  • Train and Walk

    Start from Kyoto Station and take the Keihan Line towards 'Demachiyanagi'. Get off at 'Keage Station'. Exit the station and walk straight towards the Nanzen-ji area, which is about a 15-minute walk. Follow the signs to Nanzen-ji Temple and Kōun-ji Temple is located within the temple complex.

  • Taxi

    If you prefer a direct route, you can hail a taxi from anywhere in Kyoto. Just tell the driver 'Kōun-ji Temple' or give them the address: '59 Nanzenji Kitanobocho, Sakyo Ward'. The taxi will take you directly to the temple, which should take around 15 minutes depending on traffic.

  • Bicycle

    If you're comfortable cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops near Kyoto Station. Head east towards the Philosopher's Path, then continue to Nanzen-ji area. Kōun-ji Temple is about a 30-minute bike ride from the city center. Be sure to lock your bike when you arrive.
