Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from Nara Station, exit the station and head towards the main road, Kintetsu Nara Station is also nearby. Walk along Sanjo-dori Street (Sanjo Street) in the direction of Nara Park. Keep walking straight until you reach the entrance of Nara Park, which is about a 20-minute walk from the station. Once inside the park, continue walking straight until you see the Todai-ji Temple. From there, head east towards the base of Mount Wakakusa, which is visible from the temple. The hike to the summit takes about 30-50 minutes depending on your pace.

  • Bus

    From Nara Station, you can take the Nara Kotsu Bus. Look for the bus stop that services the 'Wakakusa-yama' route. Get on the bus and ride for about 15 minutes until you reach the 'Wakakusa-yama' bus stop. Once you get off, follow the signs that lead to the hiking trail, which will take you directly to the summit. The trail is well-marked and should take around 30-50 minutes to reach the top.
