From Nara Station, take the JR Nara Line to Kyoto Station. At Kyoto Station, transfer to the JR Biwako Line (also known as the Tōkaidō Line) towards Kusatsu and get off at Otsu Station. From Otsu Station, exit and catch a local bus (number 20 or 21) towards Hieizan. Get off at the 'Enryaku-ji' bus stop. The temple entrance will be a short walk from the bus stop.

From Nara Park, find the bus stop at the Kintetsu Nara Station. Take the Kintetsu Nara Line to Yamato-Saidaiji Station. From there, transfer to the bus heading to Otsu and get off at the 'Enryaku-ji' bus stop. Follow the signs to the temple entrance, which is a short walk from the bus stop.
