Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Kyoto Station, take the JR Sagano/San-in Line to Saga-Arashiyama Station. The train ride takes approximately 12-16 minutes. From Saga-Arashiyama Station, it's about a 10-15 minute walk to the bamboo grove. Alternatively, take the Hankyu Main Line to Katsura Station, transfer to the Hankyu Arashiyama Line, and get off at Arashiyama Station, which is about a 15-20 minute walk to the grove. The JR train fare is approximately ¥200-¥280. The tram from Sai Station to Arashiyama costs ¥480.

  • Bus

    From Kyoto Station, take Kyoto City Bus #28 and alight at the Arashiyama-Tenryuji Mae bus stop. The bus stops right at Tenryu-ji Temple, from where you can walk to the Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. The bus ride takes about 30 minutes, but traffic jams can occur. The bus fare is approximately ¥230.
