Namba HIPS is a distinctive landmark in Osaka's vibrant Namba area, offering a mix of entertainment, dining, and recreational activities. Opened in December 2007, this towering complex has become a popular spot for both locals and tourists seeking diverse experiences under one roof.
The building's architecture is eye-catching, resembling a giant hourglass with an exclamation mark. This design intends to convey a concept of "eternal surprise". Namba HIPS houses pachinko parlors, karaoke rooms, sports bars, a golf studio, and various restaurants.
One of its unique features was the Yabafo, a building-mounted free-fall ride. Riders were hoisted up along the building's exterior before plummeting downwards at a high speed. The structure has also hosted rock climbing events, utilizing the massive cavity in its design. Namba HIPS is easily accessible via the Osaka Metro, Kintetsu Namba Station, and Nankai Namba Station.
