Getting there

Car

If you're driving, use the following directions: From Matsuyama, take the Matsuyama Expressway towards the Ozu interchange. After exiting at Ozu, follow Route 33 towards Kumakogen. You'll see signs for Mount Ishizuchi as you approach the area. The drive takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. Ensure to have a GPS or map app handy, and be prepared for winding mountain roads as you get closer.

Public Transportation

To reach Mount Ishizuchi via public transport, start from Matsuyama. Take the JR Yosan Line train from Matsuyama Station to Iyo-Kumakogen Station. This journey takes approximately 1 hour. Once at Iyo-Kumakogen Station, you can take a local bus to the Ishizuchi Shrine, which is about a 30-minute ride. The bus schedule may vary, so check ahead for the latest times. Make sure to carry some cash for bus fares.

Hiking

After reaching the Ishizuchi Shrine by bus, you'll need to hike to the summit of Mount Ishizuchi. The trailhead starts at the shrine, and the hike can take around 2 to 3 hours, depending on your fitness level. Make sure to wear proper hiking shoes and bring water and snacks. The trail is well-marked, and you will enjoy beautiful views along the way.

Costs

If you're using public transport, expect to pay around 1,500 yen for the train from Matsuyama to Iyo-Kumakogen and approximately 500 yen for the bus fare to the shrine. If you're driving, consider costs for fuel and any tolls on the expressway.
