Discover more about Chiba City Folk Museum

The Chiba City Folk Museum, built in 1967 on the site of the former Chiba Castle, is designed to resemble a traditional Japanese castle. While not a historical reconstruction, the museum serves as a repository of the city's history and culture. Inside, visitors can explore exhibits spanning Chiba's history from the Ritsuryo Period (7th-10th centuries) to modern times. A key focus is the Chiba clan, who ruled the area from the 12th to the 16th centuries. Displays include samurai armor, swords, firearms, and a recreation of a traditional Japanese home from the 1930s. Special exhibits on the second floor offer deeper insights into Chiba's past. The museum's fifth floor features an observation deck with panoramic views of Chiba City. On clear days, it's even possible to see Mount Fuji in the distance. The surrounding Inohana Park, the former site of Inohana Castle, provides a pleasant green space to explore.
