Discover more about Shiroyama Park

Shiroyama Park, nestled in the heart of Nobeoka, Miyazaki, is a tranquil retreat that blends natural beauty with historical significance. The park is built on the grounds of the former Nobeoka Castle, also known as Agata-jo or Kamei-jo, offering visitors a chance to explore the remnants of this once-strategic fortress. While the castle keep no longer stands, the park features reconstructed elements like the Ni-no-maru gate, offering a glimpse into the past. The park's elevated location provides panoramic views of Nobeoka City and the surrounding landscape. The 22-meter high giant stone wall was built using the technique called Nozura-zumi and is known as “sennnin-goroshi (killer of a thousand soldiers)”. Shiroyama Park is renowned for its seasonal beauty, especially during spring when its 300 cherry trees explode in a stunning display of pink blossoms, drawing crowds for hanami (cherry blossom viewing). In addition to cherry blossoms, the park boasts 3,300 yabu-tsubaki (camellia japonica) trees of 108 species, making it one of Japan's largest colonies of yabu-tsubaki. The park's bell, which has been struck daily since 1878 to mark the hours, adds to the park's unique charm. The bell is struck six times a day at 6:00, 8:00, 10:00, 12:00, 15:00, and 17:00. Whether you're interested in history, nature, or simply a peaceful escape, Shiroyama Park offers a memorable experience.
