Discover more about 鳥取城跡 天球丸

Tottori Castle, originally constructed in 1532, played a significant role as a regional power center during Japan's warring states period. Later, it became the seat of the Ikeda Clan during the Edo Period. The castle is most famous for the 200-day siege by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1581, where the defenders were starved into submission. Unfortunately, like many castles, Tottori Castle fell victim to the modernization policies of the Meiji Period and was dismantled. Today, the remaining Tottori Castle Ruins include stone walls and a single wooden gate, offering visitors a glimpse into the past. The castle ruins are now part of Kyusho Park, known for its hundreds of cherry trees, making it a popular spot for cherry blossom viewing in the spring. Visitors can climb the castle courtyards for panoramic views of Tottori City and the surrounding landscape. Located near the castle ruins is Jinpukaku, a European-style mansion constructed in 1907 by the Ikeda clan. This building, featuring open verandas and a wooden spiral staircase, symbolizes Japan's modernization. The Tottori Prefectural Museum is also nearby, where visitors can explore the history and culture of the Tottori Prefecture.
