The Keeper of the Plains: A Historical Landmark in Wichita

Getting There

• Walking

  If you're starting from downtown Wichita, head west on Douglas Avenue. Continue walking for about 0.5 miles until you reach the intersection with Main Street. Turn left onto Main Street and walk for another 0.2 miles. At the next intersection, turn right onto Waterman Street and follow it for a short distance. You'll pass the Arkansas River on your left. Continue straight onto Veterans Parkway, and after about 0.3 miles, you will see The Keeper of the Plains on your left, located at 339 Veterans Pkwy.

• Bus

  From downtown Wichita, you can catch the Wichita Transit bus route 21 at the bus stop on Douglas Avenue. Board the bus heading towards the Central Avenue & 13th Street direction. After approximately 10 minutes, get off at the stop near the intersection of Central Avenue and 2nd Street. From there, walk west on 2nd Street until you reach the Arkansas River. Follow the riverbank west until you arrive at Veterans Parkway, where The Keeper of the Plains is located at 339 Veterans Pkwy.

• Biking

  If you have access to a bike, start at the Kansas Bike Path located near the downtown area. Pedal west along the path which runs parallel to the Arkansas River. Continue on the path for about 1.5 miles, enjoying the scenic views of the river. The path will lead you directly to Veterans Parkway. Once you reach the parkway, follow the signs to The Keeper of the Plains, which is located at 339 Veterans Pkwy.
