Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Almaty city center. Head southeast on Abay Avenue towards the Medeu District. Follow signs for the Medeu skating rink and Butakovskiy waterfall. The road will lead you through the picturesque landscapes of the Almaty Mountains. Once you reach the Medeu area, you'll find a parking lot available near the start of the hiking trail leading to the waterfall. Parking fees may apply, typically around 500 KZT for a full day's parking.
Public Transportation
For public transportation, take bus number 12 or 28 from Almaty city center toward the Medeu area. The buses run frequently and will drop you off near the Medeu skating rink. From the bus stop, walk approximately 1 kilometer to reach the trailhead for Butakovskiy waterfall. The trailhead is well-marked, and you can ask locals for directions if needed. The bus fare is around 200 KZT. Be sure to check the bus schedule for return trips.
Hiking
Once you reach the trailhead, begin your hike towards Butakovskiy waterfall. The trail is a moderate hike of about 3 kilometers and will take approximately 1-1.5 hours to reach the waterfall, depending on your pace. Follow the marked path, and enjoy the scenic views along the way. Make sure to wear sturdy hiking shoes and carry enough water and snacks for the journey.
