Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the main entrance of Altyn Emel National Park, which is located near the village of Basshi. From there, head southeast on the main road for about 40 km. You will reach the sign for Poyushchiy Barkhan. Turn right onto the gravel road and continue for approximately 15 km. The parking area is near the base of the sand dunes. Be aware that a park entry fee may be required, typically around 1500 KZT per person. Make sure to have cash on hand.

Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus or shared taxi from Almaty to the village of Basshi. This usually takes around 4-5 hours. From Basshi, you can hire a local taxi or arrange for a tour that goes directly to Poyushchiy Barkhan. The cost for a taxi from Basshi to Poyushchiy Barkhan is approximately 3000-5000 KZT, depending on negotiation. Make sure to agree on a return time with the driver.

Walking/Guided Tour
Once you arrive at the parking area near Poyushchiy Barkhan, you can either walk to the sand dunes or join a guided tour. Walking will take about 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on your pace. The dunes are best accessed by foot as the terrain can be challenging. If you prefer a guided tour, check in advance for local guides who can provide insights and ensure your safety on the dunes.
