Car
If you're traveling by car within Altyn Emel National Park, start from the main park entrance. Drive towards the 'Koktobe' area, following the signs for Tanbalytas petroglyphs. The roads are mostly unpaved, so a four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended. After about 15 km, you'll reach a fork in the road; take the left path, which leads directly towards the petroglyphs. Keep an eye out for the 'Tanbalytas' sign along the way. The final stretch is approximately 5 km of rough terrain. Park your vehicle at the designated area nearby (there is no parking fee) and follow the marked trail to the petroglyphs, which are located about 500 meters from the parking spot.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transportation, take a bus from Almaty to the nearest town, which is approximately 200 km away from Altyn Emel National Park. From the town, you can hire a taxi to take you to the park entrance. The taxi fare may vary, but expect to pay around 5000-7000 KZT. Once at the park entrance, you can either join a guided tour or rent a vehicle for the remaining journey to the Tanbalytas petroglyphs. Guided tours usually include transportation and can cost around 10,000 KZT per person. It's advisable to book these tours in advance as they may fill up quickly.
