Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, head towards Altyn Emel National Park from the nearest city, which is Almaty. Start on the A2 highway and continue to the A353 road. Follow the A353, which is the main road leading into the national park. Once you are within the park, keep an eye out for signs indicating the route to Syrt (Sarytau) mount. The total drive from Almaty to the park entrance is approximately 3-4 hours, and from the entrance to the mount, it can take another 30-45 minutes depending on road conditions. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for rough terrain, as some areas may be unpaved.

• Public Transportation

  For travelers using public transportation, you can take a bus or shared taxi from Almaty to the town of Kapchagay or the village of Basshi, which are the closest points to Altyn Emel National Park. From Kapchagay, you would need to hire a local taxi or arrange a ride with local tour operators to reach the park, as public transport does not usually go directly into the national park. The bus ride to Kapchagay takes about 1-2 hours, and hiring a taxi from there to the park may cost around 5000-7000 KZT (Kazakhstani Tenge), depending on the negotiation and distance.

• Hiking

  Once you reach Altyn Emel National Park, if you are feeling adventurous, you can hike to Syrt (Sarytau) mount. There are marked trails that lead to the base of the mountain, but it's advisable to have a guide if you are unfamiliar with the area. The hike can take anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, depending on your pace and the trail conditions. Carry plenty of water, snacks, and a map or GPS device to help navigate, as some areas may not have clear signage.
