Car

If you're traveling by car, start from the main road in Chyulu Hills leading towards Kalamba. Use a GPS device or mobile map application and enter the coordinates -1.8794, 37.5306. As you approach Kalamba, you'll see signposts directing you towards Nzaui Mountain. The last stretch involves navigating on a dirt road, which may require a 4x4 vehicle, especially during the rainy season. Look for the landmark that is 4GCJ+66P, Kalamba, and park your car at a safe location nearby.

Public Transportation

To reach Nzaui Mountain by public transportation, first, take a matatu (shared taxi) to Kalamba from the nearest town, which is either at Mtito Andei or Kibwezi. The matatus are frequent, but it’s advisable to check the latest schedules. Once you arrive in Kalamba, you can hire a local boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to take you to the base of Nzaui Mountain. The cost for the boda-boda ride is approximately 200-300 KES, depending on your negotiation skills and the distance traveled. Ensure you agree on the fare before starting your journey.

Hiking

For the more adventurous traveler, after reaching the base of Nzaui Mountain via car or boda-boda, you can hike up to the summit. The hiking trail is well-marked, but it is advisable to have a local guide to ensure safety and to enrich your experience with local knowledge. The hike can take 2-4 hours depending on your fitness level. Carry enough water and snacks, as there are no facilities along the trail.
