    If you are traveling by car, start from Mombasa. Head south on the A14 road towards Kwale. Continue on the A14 for about 45 km until you reach the junction near Ukunda. Take the exit onto the B8 road towards Msambweni. After about 12 km, turn left onto Kasemeni Sinango Road. Continue on this road for approximately 5 km until you reach the entrance of Shimba Hills National Reserve. Note that you may need to pay an entrance fee, which is currently around KES 1,200 for adults and KES 600 for children.

  • Public Transport (Matatu)

    To reach Shimba Hills National Reserve using public transport, start by taking a matatu from Mombasa to Ukunda. The journey takes about 1.5 hours and costs approximately KES 200. Once you arrive in Ukunda, transfer to another matatu heading to Msambweni. After about 30 minutes, ask the driver to drop you off at the junction for Kasemeni Sinango Road. From there, you can either walk the remaining 5 km to the reserve or hire a local taxi. Be sure to confirm the taxi fare before starting your ride.

    If you prefer the convenience of a taxi, you can hire one from any major town in the Coastal Region, such as Mombasa or Diani Beach. The taxi will take you directly to Shimba Hills National Reserve. The fare can vary, but expect to pay between KES 3,500 and KES 5,000 depending on your starting point. It's advisable to negotiate the fare in advance and confirm that the driver knows the location of the reserve.
