  • Car

    To reach Barafu Camp by car, start from Moshi town, which is a common base for climbers. Drive south on A23 towards Arusha for about 30 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for Machame Road. Continue on Machame Road for approximately 20 kilometers until you reach the Machame Gate, where you will need to register and pay any necessary park fees (approximately $70 USD for various fees). After completing the registration, follow the Machame route signs for about 10 kilometers until you arrive at Barafu Camp, located near Gilman's Point on Mount Kilimanjaro. Ensure your vehicle can handle rough terrain as the road can be bumpy in places.

    From Moshi, take a shared taxi (dala-dala) to Machame Gate. The fare is typically around 10,000 TZS (Tanzanian Shillings) per person. Once you arrive at Machame Gate, pay the necessary park fees, which can vary but typically will cost around $70 USD. After registration, you can either hire a local guide or join a trekking group that has arranged transportation to Barafu Camp.
