Car
If you are driving in Mount Elgon National Park, start from the park entrance at the Bumalang'oi gate. Follow the main road towards Kanyarkwat. After approximately 15 kilometers, you will reach a junction. Turn left and continue for another 5 kilometers. Look for road signs indicating Mayosi Caves. You will arrive at the coordinates 1.285694, 34.931589, where the caves are located.
Public Transport
To reach Mayosi Caves via public transport, you can take a matatu (shared taxi) from Mbale to Kanyarkwat. The journey will take about 1.5 hours. Once you arrive in Kanyarkwat, you may need to hire a local boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to take you the last 5 kilometers to the caves. Make sure to agree on the fare beforehand, which should be around 200-300 KES.
Hiking
If you are already in the vicinity and enjoy hiking, you can approach the Mayosi Caves on foot. From the nearest lodge or camping site, follow the established trails towards the caves. The hike will take approximately 1-2 hours depending on your starting point and fitness level. Ensure you have a local guide for safety and to enhance your experience.
