Car
If you're traveling by car, start from Kisumu city and head southwest on the A1 road. Continue on A1 for about 30 kilometers until you reach the junction at Sindo. Take the left turn onto the B3 road towards Homa Bay. Drive for another 20 kilometers until you reach the junction at Ouma's. Turn left onto a dirt road, following the signs for Thimlich Ohinga Historic Site. The site is approximately 5 kilometers down this road. Ensure your vehicle is suitable for off-road driving as the final stretch can be rough.
Public Transportation
To reach Thimlich Ohinga by public transport, take a matatu (shared taxi) from Kisumu to Homa Bay. The journey takes about 1 hour and costs around 100-150 KES. Once in Homa Bay, you can catch another matatu heading towards Sindo. After approximately 20 minutes, ask the driver to drop you off at Ouma's junction. From there, you will need to walk or hire a motorcycle taxi (boda boda) to cover the last 5 kilometers to the historic site. Negotiate the fare for the boda boda, which should be around 200-300 KES.
