Car
If you are traveling by car, head towards Kisumu city center. From there, take the Kisumu-Bondo road (A1) and drive for approximately 40 kilometers. Look for signs pointing to Kit-Mikayi, which is located off the main road. As you approach the village of Kit-Mikayi, take a left turn onto a dirt road leading to the site. The drive will take around 1 hour depending on traffic conditions.
Public Transportation
To reach Kit-Mikayi by public transport, start by taking a matatu (shared taxi) from Kisumu city center to Bondo. The fare is typically around 100-150 KES. Upon reaching Bondo, you can take another matatu heading towards Siaya, which will drop you off near the entrance to Kit-Mikayi. The total travel time may take about 1.5 to 2 hours depending on waiting times and traffic. Make sure to confirm with the driver to drop you off at the correct junction for Kit-Mikayi.
Walking
Once you arrive at the junction from the matatu or if you drive, there is a short walk of about 1-2 kilometers to the Kit-Mikayi site. Follow the dirt path, and you’ll see signs leading you to the main attraction. This walk is a great opportunity to enjoy the local scenery and culture.
