Located in a cozy theatre in the heart of Luang Prabang, Garavek presents traditional Lao myths, legends, and folktales in English. The hour-long show features a Lao storyteller accompanied by live music played on the khene, a traditional bamboo mouth organ, offering an enchanting and educational experience.The stories told at Garavek recount the origins of local landmarks such as Mount Phousi, the Mekong River, and the Nam Khan River. You'll also encounter legendary characters like Xieng Mieng, the archetypal trickster, and Fa Ngum, the first king of Lan Xang. Garavek aims to preserve and promote these local traditional stories, offering visitors a deeper understanding of Lao culture and heritage.The performance provides cultural insight and entertainment for all ages. Tickets can be purchased at the theatre from 6pm, with the show running from 6:30 to 7:30 pm. Drinks are available for purchase inside the theatre. Garavek provides a memorable and enriching experience for those seeking to connect with the heart and soul of Luang Prabang.

Garavek is located in the heart of Luang Prabang's old town, making it easily accessible on foot from most hotels and guesthouses. From the main street (Sisavangvong Road), walk towards the Mekong River. Garavek is located one street back from the main tourist street towards the Mekong River, a short walk from Wat Xieng Thong. Allow a few minutes to reach the theatre. There are no costs associated with walking.

Tuk-tuks are readily available throughout Luang Prabang and offer a convenient way to reach Garavek. Negotiate the fare before starting your journey. A short tuk-tuk ride within the city center typically costs between 10,000 to 20,000 LAK (approximately $1-$2 USD). Be sure to confirm the price with the driver before you set off.
