Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start from the capital of Khammouane Province, Thakhek. Head north on Route 12 for approximately 40 kilometers. After passing the town of Mahaxai, continue on Route 12 until you reach a junction at Muang Yommalath. Take the left turn onto Route 13. After about 12 kilometers, look for signs directing you to Pha Katai Viewpoint. There is parking available near the viewpoint, but be mindful of the terrain and road conditions.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Pha Katai Viewpoint by public transportation, take a bus from Thakhek to Muang Yommalath. Buses leave regularly from the Thakhek bus station. The fare is typically around 30,000 LAK (Lao Kip) and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Once in Muang Yommalath, you will need to hire a local tuk-tuk or motorbike taxi to take you to Pha Katai Viewpoint, which should cost around 50,000 LAK. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand.

• Trekking (if desired)

  For the adventurous, consider trekking to Pha Katai Viewpoint from Muang Yommalath. This option is for those who are physically fit and enjoy hiking. The trek is approximately 6 kilometers and takes about 2 hours. It involves some steep sections, so come prepared with good walking shoes and plenty of water. You can ask locals for directions to the starting point of the trail.
