If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Thakhek, the capital of Khammouane Province. Head north on Route 12 for approximately 40 kilometers until you reach the intersection with Route 13. Turn left onto Route 13 and continue for about 25 kilometers. Look for signs indicating Ban Lao. After entering Ban Lao, keep an eye out for local signs directing you to Song Sa Waterfall. The waterfall is located around 4 kilometers from the village, and you will need to drive along a smaller road. The last stretch may be a bit uneven, so proceed with caution.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Thakhek to Ban Lao. Buses frequently leave from the Thakhek bus station and the fare is about 20,000 LAK (approximately $2.00 USD). The journey takes roughly an hour. Once you arrive in Ban Lao, you can hire a tuk-tuk to take you to Song Sa Waterfall. The tuk-tuk ride will cost around 40,000 LAK (approximately $4.00 USD) and will take about 15 minutes to reach the waterfall.
Motorbike
If you prefer a more adventurous route, consider renting a motorbike in Thakhek. After renting, follow the same route as when driving a car: take Route 12 north for 40 kilometers, then turn left onto Route 13 for about 25 kilometers. Once you reach Ban Lao, follow the local signs to Song Sa Waterfall. Riding a motorbike will give you the flexibility to explore the beautiful countryside along the way. Fuel costs should be considered, and gas stations are available along the routes.
