Getting there

Walking

From Vang Vieng's main street, head northwest, passing the Vang Vieng Market. Continue for about 1 kilometer until you reach the junction with the road leading to the Blue Lagoon. Turn right and follow it for about 2 kilometers. Look for signs indicating the way to Phapoak Mountain. The total walking distance from the center of Vang Vieng is approximately 3 kilometers. Expect to pay around 10,000-15,000 kip for a tuk-tuk from the bus station to the town center if you arrive by bus. From there, the walk to the mountain is manageable.

Phapoak Mountain, a prominent limestone hill, beckons visitors with the promise of breathtaking panoramic views. Situated west of Vang Vieng, the mountain is easily recognizable by the Lao flag waving proudly at its summit. Although the climb can be strenuous, the captivating scenery makes it a worthwhile endeavor. From the top, one can admire the entire town of Vang Vieng on one side and the dramatic karst mountains on the other.While the climb to Phapoak Mountain may not be suitable for everyone, it offers a satisfying experience for those seeking adventure and stunning natural beauty. The cool morning hours are particularly pleasant for hiking, offering a chance to avoid the midday heat while taking in the stunning sunrise views.
