Vidzeme Rocky Seashore, a protected nature reserve in Latvia, offers a distinctive coastal experience with its 12-kilometer stretch of rocky beaches and sandstone cliffs along the Gulf of Riga. This area, located in the Liepupe and Salacgriva parishes, is a part of the North Vidzeme Biosphere Reserve. The coastline features unique sandstone formations, some dating back 350-380 million years, which are among the only ones of their kind on the Baltic Sea coast. The largest of these formations are south of Veczemji, reaching up to 4 meters in height, and between Kapnieki and Silini, reaching 5 meters. Coastal erosion during storms creates new exposures and constantly reshapes the landscape. The area is also known for its boulder-strewn beaches, underwater sand ridges, and diverse habitats. These habitats support a variety of plant and animal life, including rare and protected species. The reserve also includes natural meadows and forests. Visitors can explore the area by foot or bicycle, discovering landmarks such as the fallen Ķurmrags lighthouse and the Great Krauju Sea Stone.
