    Krustpils Castle, a majestic landmark in Jēkabpils, Latvia, stands as a testament to the region's captivating history. Constructed in 1237 by Archbishop Nicholas of Magdeburg of Rīga, the castle initially served as a crucial fortification along the route from Rīga to Daugavpils. Over the centuries, it has transformed through various roles, witnessing the rise and fall of empires and serving as a silent observer of Latvia's evolving story.In the mid-16th century, the castle became the property of King Stephen Báthory of Poland, who later granted it to Baron Nikolai von Korff in 1585. The Korff family owned the castle for the next 300 years, during which it gradually lost its medieval character and acquired Baroque elements. After World War I, the castle was used by the Latgale Artillery Regiment, and later, during the Soviet era, it was handed over to the Soviet Army.Since 1996, the Jēkabpils History Museum has been located in Krustpils Castle, undertaking its management and restoration. Today, the castle welcomes visitors to explore its historical rooms, exhibitions, and the castle tower, which offers panoramic views of Jēkabpils. The museum features seven permanent exhibitions, including 'Krustpils. Jēkabpils. Daugava,' 'Old Believers in Jēkabpils,' and 'Fighting for Freedom in the 20th Century'. The castle also hosts cultural events and educational programs, making it a vibrant center for learning and engagement.The castle's courtyard and garden have been restored, featuring a fountain in its historical location.
