Fürstin-Gina-Weg Travel Guide

The Fürstin-Gina-Weg, or Princess Gina Trail, is a breathtaking hiking experience in the heart of Liechtenstein's Alps. Named in honor of Princess Gina of Liechtenstein, the trail provides not only a physical challenge but also a feast for the eyes, with panoramic views of the surrounding mountain ranges and a diverse array of alpine flora.The trail typically begins at the Sareis mountain station, accessible from Malbun via chairlift. From Sareis, the path follows the ridge towards Sareiserjoch, where the trail becomes more demanding. Hikers can expect a mix of terrain, from flower-filled meadows to rocky paths, as they ascend towards Augstenberg, the highest point of the hike. The summit is marked with a prominent cross and offers sweeping views of the Falknis range, the Schesaplana massif, and the Malbun valley.The descent towards Pfälzerhütte is known to be steep and secured with ropes in exposed sections. The Pfälzerhütte is a mountain hut where hikers can rest. The trail then loops back towards Malbun through Alp Gritsch and Vaduzer Täli.Princess Gina, who passed away in 1989, was the mother of the current Prince Hans-Adam II. The path serves as a monument to her memory, and in the same year, the government declared the entire alpine region of Liechtenstein (excluding grazing areas) as a plant conservation area.
