Public Transit - Bus

From any location in Slidell, walk to the nearest bus stop that serves the St. Tammany Transit system. Look for Route 1, which travels to New Orleans. Once you board the bus, stay on for approximately 30-40 minutes until you reach the New Orleans City Center. From there, transfer to the RTA Streetcar Line at the Canal Street stop. Take the streetcar heading towards the Riverfront for about 15 minutes. Get off at the St. Charles Avenue stop, and walk approximately 10 minutes toward the Garden District, where you can enjoy the beautiful architecture and lush gardens.

Bicycle Rental

If you're near the Slidell Recreation Center, you can rent a bicycle from a local rental shop. Once you have your bike, head southwest on Gause Boulevard W for about 2 miles until you reach the intersection with US-11. Turn left onto US-11 and continue riding until you reach the bridge over Lake Pontchartrain. Cross the bridge and follow the signs for New Orleans. Once in New Orleans, navigate towards Magazine Street and follow it to the Garden District. Make sure to lock your bike at a bike rack when you arrive.

Walking

If you're in downtown Slidell, you can take a scenic walk to the nearby train station. Head south on Robert Blvd until you reach the Amtrak station located on 2001 Gause Blvd E. From here, board the Amtrak train heading to New Orleans. The train ride will take approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive at the New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal, exit the station and head towards Poydras Street. Walk two blocks towards St. Charles Avenue and catch the streetcar heading towards the Garden District. The Garden District will be a short ride away.
