Car
Start from the center of Atsinanana and drive south towards Route Nationale 2. Continue on this road for approximately 30 km until you reach the town of Ampefy. Once in Ampefy, look for signs leading to Ilot de la Vierge or ask locals for directions. The final stretch will take you to XP5M+FR7, where you will find a parking area. Ensure you have some cash for parking fees, which can range from 1,000 to 3,000 Ariary.
Public Transportation
From the main bus station in Atsinanana, take a taxi-brousse heading towards Ampefy. The journey will take around 1-2 hours depending on traffic and road conditions. Upon arrival in Ampefy, disembark at the main taxi-brousse station. From there, you can hire a local taxi or walk to XP5M+FR7, where Ilot de la Vierge is located. Be prepared to pay around 1,000 to 2,000 Ariary for the taxi ride from the station to the site.
Walking
If you are already in Ampefy, you can walk to Ilot de la Vierge from the town center. Head south towards the waterfront, following the road that leads to the lake. It’s a scenic walk of about 1 km. Once you reach the waterfront, look for signs directing you to XP5M+FR7. This route is pleasant and you may encounter local shops and cafes along the way, so take your time and enjoy the views.
