Walking
Start your journey from the center of Bar Harbor. Make your way to Main Street and walk towards the waterfront. Once you reach the shore, head east along the Shore Path. Continue walking until you reach the end of the path, where you'll find the entrance to Acadia National Park. From there, follow the signs directing you to Great Head Trail. The trailhead is approximately 1.5 miles from the Shore Path.
Biking
If you prefer biking, you can rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Bar Harbor. Start from Main Street and head towards the entrance of Acadia National Park via the Park Loop Road. Look for the signs that point to Great Head Trail. The ride will take you approximately 30 minutes, and you can lock your bike at the trailhead.
Public Transportation
During the summer months, there are free Island Explorer buses that service Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. Catch the bus from any designated stop in Bar Harbor and ride towards the Acadia National Park Loop Road. Get off at the stop closest to the Great Head Trailhead. Check the schedule for specific times and routes.
Hiking
For those already hiking in Acadia National Park, make your way to the Park Loop Road. Head towards the Great Head Trail, which is well-marked. The trail itself offers beautiful views of the coastline and is a moderate hike, making it accessible for most visitors.
