Car
If you are driving, start by heading towards Bar Harbor from any point on Mount Desert Island. Use Route 3 to reach Bar Harbor and follow signs for the town center. Once in Bar Harbor, continue on Main Street, then take a right onto Fire Road 800. The entrance to Blue Horizons Preserve will be on your right. There is no parking fee at the preserve.

Public Transportation
If you are using public transportation, take the Island Explorer bus service, which operates in the summer months. Board the bus at any designated stop in Mount Desert Island that services the Bar Harbor route. Get off at the stop closest to Main Street in Bar Harbor. From there, you will need to walk to Fire Road 800, which is approximately a 20-minute walk (1 mile) from Main Street. The walk involves heading east on Main Street, then turning right onto Fire Road 800. Be sure to check the Island Explorer schedule for the latest routes and times.

For those who prefer to bike, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Bar Harbor. From the town center, head east on Main Street, then take a right onto Fire Road 800. It’s approximately a 2-mile ride. The route includes some light traffic, so be cautious while biking.
