From anywhere in Mangochi, head towards the main road (M5) that runs along the lakeshore. Drive south on the M5 road for approximately 30 kilometers. Look for the signs directing you to The Makokola Retreat, which is located off the main road. The exact coordinates are -14.305214, 35.133353. Follow the dirt road leading to the retreat entrance. Parking is available on-site.

To reach The Makokola Retreat by public transport, take a minibus or taxi heading to Makokola from Mangochi town. The fare should be around 1,000 MWK (Malawian Kwacha). Inform the driver that you would like to get off at The Makokola Retreat. The journey takes approximately 45 minutes. Once you arrive, you may need to walk a short distance on a dirt road to the retreat entrance.

For the adventurous, you can rent a bicycle in Mangochi and ride to The Makokola Retreat. Follow the same route as the car directions, heading south on the M5 road. The distance is about 30 kilometers, and the ride can take 1.5 to 2 hours depending on your pace. Make sure to wear a helmet and take plenty of water.
