Car
If you are driving from the center of Mangochi, head east on the M5 road towards the lakeshore. Continue straight for about 15 kilometers. Look for a sign for The Makokola Retreat on your left. Turn left onto the road leading to the retreat, which is located at the coordinates -14.3052, 35.1334. Follow the signs to the retreat entrance.

To reach The Makokola Retreat by public transport, take a minibus or shared taxi from Mangochi town towards Makokola. The fare is approximately 500 MWK (Malawian Kwacha). Inform the driver that you want to get off at The Makokola Retreat. The journey will take about 30 minutes. Once you arrive, the retreat will be directly accessible from the main road.

If you are already close to the lakeshore in Mangochi, you can walk to The Makokola Retreat. Head east along the lakeshore road, following the M5. It’s about a 5 km walk, which will take approximately 1 hour. Ensure to walk during the day for safety and enjoy the scenic views of Lake Malawi along the way.
