Getting There
Car
If you are traveling by car from Mulanje town, head south on the main road (M1) towards the junction for the Lilongwe-Mulanje road. Continue straight until you reach the entrance to the Mulanje Massif National Park. Here, you will need to pay an entrance fee, which is approximately 10,000 MWK for foreign tourists. After entering the park, follow the signs towards the 'Lilomba' area. Drive carefully along the winding roads, and look for a sign that indicates the direction to the Malape Pillars. There is a small parking area near the base of the pillars where you can leave your vehicle.
Public Transport
From Mulanje town, you can catch a minibus heading towards Lilongwe or Zomba. Inform the driver that you want to get off at the Malape Pillars area. The fare is around 500 MWK. The minibus will drop you off at the closest point to the pillars, which may require a short walk (approximately 1-2 kilometers) along a dirt path to reach the base of the Malape Pillars. Be sure to ask locals for directions if you are unsure.
Walking
Once you arrive at the parking area or the drop-off point from the public transport, you will need to walk towards the Malape Pillars. Follow the marked trail or path that leads to the pillars. The hike is relatively easy and takes about 30-45 minutes. Ensure you have comfortable footwear and plenty of water, especially if you are visiting during the warmer months.
