Car
If you are driving from Thyolo, head southeast on the M1 road toward Mulanje. Continue for about 30 kilometers until you reach the junction for Mulanje town. Turn left onto the M5 road, following signs to Mulanje. After approximately 10 kilometers, you will see signs for Mulanje Massif. There are several entry points to the massif, but the main entrance is at Likhubula, where you can find parking. Note that you might need to pay a small entrance fee, typically around 1000 MWK.
Public Transportation
To reach Mulanje Massif via public transport, start from Thyolo town and find a minibus heading to Mulanje. These minibuses leave from the main station and usually cost around 500 MWK. The ride will take approximately 45 minutes. Once you arrive in Mulanje town, you can take a taxi or walk to the Likhubula entrance of the massif, which is about 8 kilometers away. Expect to pay around 1000 MWK for a taxi ride.
Hiking
After reaching the Likhubula entrance, you can begin your hike into the Mulanje Massif. There are various trails available, and it’s recommended to hire a local guide for safety and navigation. Guide fees vary, but expect to pay around 5000 MWK for a day. Be sure to bring adequate supplies, including water, snacks, and appropriate hiking gear.
