If you are in the central area of Kuching, you can start your journey by walking to the Kuching Waterfront, a popular area along the Sarawak River. From the Waterfront, head towards the Main Bazaar street. Keep walking straight until you reach the bus stop near the Sarawak River. Take note of the nearby landmarks such as the Golden Bridge and the Sarawak State Assembly Building, as they will help you navigate. Once you reach the bus stop, look for the local bus service that goes to Petra Jaya. You can ask locals or check the bus schedule posted at the bus stop. The bus ride will take approximately 15-20 minutes, and you should get off at the closest stop to Fort Margherita. After getting off, walk towards the riverbank, and you will see Fort Margherita ahead, situated along the water.

Bike Rental
For a more adventurous option, consider renting a bicycle from one of the bike rental shops near the Kuching Waterfront. Once you have your bicycle, head towards the north along the river promenade. Continue cycling until you reach the roundabout at Jalan Main Bazaar, then turn left onto Jalan Petra. Follow the road until you see signs pointing to Fort Margherita. The ride should take around 20-30 minutes, depending on your pace. As you approach the fort, you’ll be able to see its distinctive structure in the distance, making it easy to find.

If you prefer public transport, you can start from the Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal. Take a local bus heading towards Petra Jaya. The bus fare is quite affordable, and the journey will last around 30 minutes. Upon arrival at Petra Jaya, get off at the designated stop closest to Fort Margherita. From there, it is a short walk to the fort. Just follow the signs or ask locals for directions if you’re unsure. You will be able to enjoy the scenic views along the way.
