Discover more about Blue Hole Viewpoint

The Blue Hole, situated on Gozo's western coast in Dwejra, is a geological marvel and a prime destination for divers and nature enthusiasts. This impressive site is a natural sinkhole carved by centuries of wind and wave action, resulting in a dramatic vertical tube of clear water. The Blue Hole is approximately 10 meters in diameter and plunges to a depth of about 15 meters. A large underwater archway at the bottom connects the Blue Hole to the open sea, offering divers access to a fascinating underwater world. The site is teeming with marine life, including octopi, groupers, parrotfish, and vibrant coral formations. Before 2017, the Blue Hole was adjacent to the iconic Azure Window, a natural limestone arch that collapsed into the sea. Although the Azure Window is gone, its remains create an underwater boulder reef, adding to the diving experience. Divers can explore the fallen rocks, swim through tunnels, and observe the diverse sea creatures that have made this area their home. Even if you're not a diver, the Blue Hole is worth a visit for its stunning views and unique geological formations. The surrounding rocky terrain provides vantage points to observe the crystal-clear waters and the dramatic coastline. The area is also part of the Dwejra Marine Conservation Area, highlighting the importance of preserving its natural beauty and biodiversity.
