Getting There

Bus

From Victoria (Rabat), Gozo's capital, take bus line 311 or 312 towards Dwejra. The bus trip takes approximately 20 minutes. Alight at the 'Dwejra' bus stop, which is a short 3-minute walk to the Inland Sea. A single bus ticket costs around €2.
Car

From the Mġarr Harbour ferry terminal, follow the signs towards Victoria. Once in Victoria, take the San Lawrenz road. Continue through San Lawrenz towards the coast. A large public parking area is available near the Inland Sea. Parking is generally plentiful. Be aware of parking restrictions; white bays with no signs are free, while white bays with 'Type A' signs indicate timed zones. Driving time from the ferry terminal is approximately 20 minutes. Car rentals are available on Malta and Gozo. Some hotels offer discounted car hire for direct bookings. Driving is on the left-hand side of the road.

The Inland Sea, also known as Qawra in Maltese, is a remarkable seawater lagoon on the island of Gozo, Malta. Connected to the open Mediterranean Sea by an 80-meter long, narrow tunnel through the cliffs of Dwejra Point, it presents a unique geological formation. The lagoon itself is encircled by towering cliffs and features a pebble beach where colorful fishing boats, called luzzijiet, are often pulled ashore.Formed by the collapse of a sea cave roof due to a geological fault in the limestone, the Inland Sea has become a haven for both tourists and marine life. Jacques Cousteau allegedly cited the Inland Sea as one of his top ten dives. Divers explore the tunnel and the open sea beyond, encountering diverse fish species, sponges, corals, and unique underwater topography. Boat tours are also popular, taking visitors through the tunnel to witness the dramatic cliffs and caves along Gozo's western coast.The tunnel starts at a depth of about 6 meters within the lagoon, descending to approximately 15 meters midway, and reaching a seabed depth of 25 meters at the exit to the open sea. The walls of the tunnel are adorned with marine life, and the exit reveals a stunning panoramic view of the deep blue Mediterranean. Divers can explore vertical fissures, caves, and reefs teeming with marine life. Boat tours also operate within the tunnel, so divers and swimmers should be aware of boat traffic.
