Getting There

• Car

  If you're in Assateague Island National Seashore, start by heading southeast on the main road, Assateague Island Drive. Continue straight for approximately 3 miles until you reach the entrance to the Assateague Island National Seashore. Once inside the park, follow the signs towards the Assateague Lighthouse. You'll find a parking area near the lighthouse. Note that there may be a parking fee required to enter the national seashore, typically around $20 for a private vehicle.

• Bicycle

  For a more adventurous option, consider biking to the Assateague Lighthouse. You can rent bikes from local shops in Chincoteague or bring your own. Start from the main entrance of the Assateague Island National Seashore and ride along the designated bike paths. The ride is about 3 miles and offers beautiful views of the island. Lock your bike at the designated bike rack near the lighthouse.

• Walking

  If you're already in the vicinity of the lighthouse, you can take a scenic walk to it. From the nearest parking area, follow the marked trails leading to the lighthouse. The walk is approximately 0.5 miles and is a pleasant stroll through the coastal landscape. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water, especially on warm days.

• Public Transportation

  While public transportation options directly to the lighthouse are limited, you can take a bus or shuttle service from nearby towns to Chincoteague. Once in Chincoteague, you may need to use a taxi or rideshare service to get to the Assateague Lighthouse, as the distance is about 12 miles from the town center.
