Getting There

  • Car

    From any location in Eastern Shore, head towards the Chesapeake Bay Bridge via Route 50 West. After crossing the bridge, continue on Route 50 to Route 295 North towards Washington D.C. Once you approach the D.C. area, take the exit for I-495 (Capital Beltway) heading towards Silver Spring. Stay on I-495 for about 10 miles, then take Exit 41A for MD-187 South (Old Georgetown Rd). Continue on MD-187 South for about 2.5 miles. Turn left onto Oxford Rd and follow it until you reach Clara Barton National Historic Site at 5801 Oxford Rd, Glen Echo, MD 20812. Note that there is no entry fee to visit the site, but parking may be limited.

  • Public Transportation

    If you prefer public transportation, take a Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) bus from various locations on the Eastern Shore to reach the nearest Metro station, such as the Greenbelt Metro Station. From Greenbelt Metro Station, take the Green Line towards Branch Ave and transfer at Gallery Place to the Red Line towards Glenmont. Get off at the Bethesda station. Once there, you can take a taxi or rideshare service directly to Clara Barton National Historic Site at 5801 Oxford Rd, Glen Echo, MD 20812. Be aware that public transit costs will vary, typically around $2-$5 for bus fare and Metro fares depending on the distance.
