Walking
Start at the Bethesda Metro Station. Exit the station and head northwest on Wisconsin Ave NW. Continue straight until you reach the intersection with Old Georgetown Rd. Turn right onto Old Georgetown Rd and walk until you reach the intersection with River Rd. Here, you can catch the Ride On Bus Route 34 towards Glen Echo Park. Get off at the Cabin John Park stop. From there, walk to the C&O Canal Lock 8 by following the signs towards the canal which is a short walk away.

From the Bethesda Metro Station, take the Ride On Bus Route 34 towards Glen Echo Park. Stay on the bus for about 15-20 minutes until you reach the Cabin John Park stop. Once you get off, walk towards the C&O Canal, which is well-signposted. Follow the path to reach Lock 8 directly.
