Getting There

Public Bus
From Gaithersburg, head to the nearest bus stop and take the Ride On bus route 55 towards Glenmont Metro Station. Stay on the bus for approximately 30 minutes until you reach the Silver Spring Metro Station. From there, transfer to the Metro's Red Line towards Glenmont and ride for about 25 minutes. Disembark at the Metro Center Station and transfer to the Blue, Orange, or Silver Line towards Largo Town Center. Get off at the Smithsonian Station. After exiting the station, walk towards the National Mall and head northwest towards the Potomac River. Theodore Roosevelt Island is located across the Arlington Memorial Bridge. You can walk over the bridge and follow the signs to the island entrance.

Make your way to the Gaithersburg Metro Station and board the Metro's Red Line towards Glenmont. Travel for about 30 minutes and get off at the Metro Center Station. At Metro Center, transfer to the Orange, Blue, or Silver Line towards Largo Town Center. Ride for 2 stops and get off at the Smithsonian Station. After exiting the station, walk towards the National Mall, head northwest towards the Potomac River, and cross the Arlington Memorial Bridge to reach Theodore Roosevelt Island.

If you prefer cycling, rent a bike from a local bike-sharing service in Gaithersburg. Start your journey by heading towards the Capital Crescent Trail. Follow the trail south until you reach the Georgetown area. From there, navigate towards the Potomac River and continue along the waterfront until you reach the Arlington Memorial Bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the signs to Theodore Roosevelt Island. The bike ride will take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on your pace.
