From anywhere in Laurel, head to the nearest bus stop that services the Metrobus system. Take the 86 bus towards Greenbelt Metro Station. Once you reach the Greenbelt Metro Station, transfer to the Green Line Metro train towards Branch Ave. Get off at the Shaw-Howard University Station. From there, exit the station and walk east on Florida Ave NW for about 5 minutes until you reach Vermont Ave NW. Turn left on Vermont Ave NW and walk for another 5 minutes to reach the African American Civil War Museum at 1925 Vermont Ave NW.

Make your way to the nearest Metro station in Laurel, such as the Laurel Town Center. Take the MARC train towards Washington, D.C. and get off at the Union Station stop. From Union Station, transfer to the Red Line Metro train towards Glenmont. Get off at the Gallery Place-Chinatown station and transfer to the Green Line Metro train towards Branch Ave. Get off at the Shaw-Howard University Station. Exit the station and walk east on Florida Ave NW for about 5 minutes until you reach Vermont Ave NW. Turn left on Vermont Ave NW and continue for another 5 minutes until you arrive at the African American Civil War Museum at 1925 Vermont Ave NW.
