Getting There

  • Walking

    If you are starting from downtown Gloucester, begin at the Cape Ann Museum located at 27 Pleasant St. From there, head northwest on Pleasant Street until you reach the intersection with Main Street. Turn left onto Main Street and walk straight until you reach the Gloucester Train Station. From the station, take the MBTA commuter rail towards Rockport. The ride takes about 15 minutes. Get off at the Rockport Station. Upon exiting the station, turn left onto Railroad Avenue, then take a right onto Broadway. Follow Broadway until it merges into Cape Ann Road (Route 127). Continue on Route 127 for about 1.5 miles. You will see signs for Halibut Point State Park on your left. Follow the signs to the park entrance.

  • Biking

    For those who prefer to bike, rent a bike from one of the local rental shops in Gloucester. Start your journey from the Gloucester Harbor and head north on Harbor Loop. Continue onto the scenic route along Route 127, following the coastline. Biking along Route 127 provides beautiful views of the ocean. The ride is approximately 3 miles and will take you about 20-30 minutes. Look for signs directing you to Halibut Point State Park, which will be on your left side.

    To reach Halibut Point State Park using public transport, start at the Gloucester MBTA station. Board the MBTA commuter rail heading towards Rockport. After a 15-minute ride, disembark at Rockport Station. From there, take the Rockport Shuttle (if available) or a local taxi service. If using the shuttle, ask the driver to drop you off at Halibut Point State Park. If you opt for a taxi, it's a short 2-mile ride from Rockport Station to the park.
