Bus
To get to Cambridge Common from downtown Lowell, start by walking to the nearest bus stop for the Lowell Transit System. Take the bus heading towards the Alewife station on the MBTA Red Line. After approximately 40 minutes, get off at Alewife and transfer to the Alewife subway station. Take the Red Line heading towards Ashmont. Ride for about 35 minutes and disembark at the Alewife station. From there, continue on the Red Line to the next stop at 'Harvard Square'. Once you arrive at Harvard Square, exit the station and head northwest on Mass Ave. Continue walking for about 10 minutes until you reach the intersection of Waterhouse St and Massachusetts Ave, where you will find Cambridge Common.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from one of the local bike-sharing systems in Lowell. Start at the Lowell Bike Share station and head southwest on the Merrimack River Trail, then take the trail towards the city of Cambridge. Follow the bike lanes on local streets until you reach Alewife. From Alewife, continue on the Minuteman Bikeway towards Arlington and then connect to bike paths leading directly to Cambridge Common. This route may take approximately 1-1.5 hours depending on your cycling speed.
Walking
For those who enjoy walking, you can make your way to the nearest train station in Lowell, which is the Lowell Commuter Rail Station. From there, take the MBTA Commuter Rail to North Station in Boston. After arriving at North Station, follow the signs to the Green Line subway and take the Green Line towards Park Street. At Park Street, transfer to the Red Line heading towards Alewife. Disembark at Harvard Square. Once you exit the station, walk approximately 10 minutes northwest on Massachusetts Ave until you reach Waterhouse St, where you will find Cambridge Common.
