Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from within Mohawk Trail State Forest, start by heading towards Route 2. Take Route 2 East until you reach the junction with Route 8. Turn left onto Route 8 South. Follow Route 8 for approximately 10 miles until you reach the intersection with Prospect St in Plainfield. Turn right onto Prospect St, and the entrance to Mass Audubon's West Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary will be on your left. There is no admission fee for the sanctuary.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in this area. The nearest bus service is the Franklin Regional Transit Authority (FRTA) which operates from Greenfield, MA. You would need to take a bus from Greenfield to the nearest stop at Route 8. From there, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service to cover the remaining distance to Prospect St in Plainfield. Be sure to check the FRTA schedule as services may not be frequent.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer biking, you can use the routes mentioned above. Starting from Mohawk Trail State Forest, follow Route 2 East, then take Route 8 South. Keep in mind that biking on these roads requires caution due to traffic. Make sure to wear appropriate safety gear. Once on Prospect St, you will find the entrance to the sanctuary. Ensure your bike is equipped for off-road paths if you plan to explore the sanctuary further.

• Walking

  If you are close enough and prefer walking, you can use local trails to make your way to Prospect St. However, this option may only be feasible for those staying nearby and familiar with the local terrain. Follow the nearest pathway leading to Prospect St and head towards the sanctuary. Be prepared for varying terrain and wear proper footwear.
